Adventure is an understatement

Hello Everyone,
Well I finally completed day 4 and let me tell you the miles just keep getting longer and longer and the hills just keep getting bigger and bigger! But good news is tomorrow I finish it up and will be in Houghton!!!!! I'm super excited I have never been to Houghton so this should be quite the treat!!

Today my sister and I got to see all the beauty Michigan has to offer. It truly is a very very beautiful place, I can't believe how green it is!! We started out the day in Wisconsin climbing a few hills that were very very steep, I felt like the little engine that could telling myself that I could get up them!! After some technical difficulties with the water stop being moved to mile 19 we got some water and found the trail we would ride on for most of the day! Before getting started on the trail I had to switch out my bike because it was gravel! So I rode my dad's bike for most of the day. So my sister and I got started on yet another gravel road and thought well this is the worst it can get right. WRONG! After finally making it over the state line and into Michigan the trail then were stones, sand, and mud! But we got through it and had a lot of fun doing so!!

We passed a lot of very pretty scenery including a lake that we could see the bottom, a lot of ferns, and some wildlife. Now within that wildlife the first thing we saw was a BEAR!! I am not joking it was a small bear like 75 ft away from us in the middle of this trail with no one around but my sister and I in the middle of the woods. After seeing it we then had to get up enough courage to cross where the bear crossed, it took every ounce of courage we both had to first go across the path and then continue onto the rest of the trail! I have never been so glad to see people, and a little town when we finally got off the trail!

After this we then started riding on 141 and was smooth sailing with just some more hills until we got a little ways down the road and then was chased by a dog. I tried to yell "Get off the couch" like my dad said but let me tell you when your in the middle of no where that doesn't work! So we finally got the dog to run away and it was very smooth sailing until we hit Covington, MI!!

I'm super excited to finish tomorrow with only 50 miles to go!! It should be a beautiful ride right next to the lake!! Well I am off to bed now so we can finish strong tomorrow!!

Jill
