What a Day

Hello Everyone,
Well well well where do I even begin after a day like today?!? I guess I will start from the beginning! Today started off very very well, I got bacon for breakfast which made me super excited! Also my dad made me put shammy butter in my shorts which was super wet, cold, and absolutely disgusting! It was like rubbing lard in your shorts, I do not recommend doing it! Then it was out of Green Bay and onto Dunbar, WI!! It started off very well, we were averaging about 16.5 miles per hour and it was all flat so I was sure it was going to be a great day! Then about 10:30am it started to rain lightly, this was very doable because the road wasn't getting very wet! Then all of a sudden it started to rain harder and there began to be puddles in the road, on any other day this wouldn't have been a problem but I have never rode in the rain. So it was very scary to start out because it is harder to control the bike in the rain. I soon got it all figured out though and we were back to going pretty fast. Then the rain never stopped and we just kept getting more and more wet and then we found out we had to go on a 4 lane busy highway with semi's flying past us with even more rain behind them. If you can imagine feeling like your swimming while riding a bike on a 4 lane highway that is kind of how it felt. Once we got off the busy highway we realized it was really a wrong turn and we didn't actually have to be on that highway. So we called the vehicle to come and get us and drop us off back on track since we were already riding 90 miles today!

It then got a little better the rain started to slow down and it was pretty flat. Then we got farther north and if you have ever been very very far north in Wisconsin then you know that there are some dirt roads up here. That is just what we found lots and lots of dirt roads. With a mountain bike this kind of terrain would have been no problem, however, I have a road bike that is not made for dirt at all! So we ended up walking our bikes down the dirt road, after attempting to ride on it only to find out that it was not possible at all. Then we finally made it to Dunbar!! It is actually very beautiful up here, lots and lots of green and lakes!!! We also saw a couple of deer, and a crane! I really wish we would have seen a bear but no such luck:( Tomorrow we finally enter into Michigan!!!!!!!! I am super excited about this, other than actually getting to Houghton this will be the time I have been looking the most forward too!!

We are expected to arrive at Houghton on Saturday afternoon probably around 3pm!! The finish line will be at townsend drive by the Memorial Union Building!!! It should be very exciting!! Also I wanted to remind everyone that if you haven't yet it isn't to late to donate to Camp Wawbeek for us to finish the trail!! All you have to do is fill out a donation form and send it to the address on it. If you need a donation form let me know and I can get one to you!! It is a great cause that needs our help, and I am getting super close to my goal of $2500 and every little bit will help me get closer!!!

Well I am off to bed before another great ride tomorrow!!
